A story woven
in every dot knot.
Authentic sungudi sarees, rooted in the heritage of Madurai.
Crafted to be remembered
Born from Madurai's rich textile heritage, each saree is shaped by skilled hands and generations of knowledge. Thoughtfully crafted, beautifully made not merely to be worn, but to be remembered.

The cotton base is handwoven on the traditional loom.

Thousands of tiny knots are tied by hand to create the resist pattern.

The knotted fabric is dyed, allowing colour to enter everywhere except the protected knots.

Each knot is opened to reveal the characteristic Sungudi dots.

The saree is finished and, where required, completed with other handicrafts

Watch it. Love it.

Preserving the soul of Sungudi, one knot at a time.
For artist Jayabarathi, Sungudi is more than a textile art and it is a living expression of Madurai's ancestral memory, regional identity, and spiritual heritage. Having experience of more than 25 years, she approaches the craft with a deep reverence for the city and its traditions, drawing inspiration from the grace and blessings of Meenakshi Amman.
Her practice is rooted in an intimate, hands-on relationship with the craft as single saree require minimum 6-8 weeks of time and dedication. Alongside working closely with local weavers and craftspeople, Jayabarathi personally hand-knots Sungudi sarees, carefully preserving the authenticity of every knot, weave, and dye. Through Temple of Sungudi, she brings together craftsmanship, community, and cultural preservation, carrying Madurai's heritage forward while honouring the artisans who keep this ancient tradition alive.

Lovely Sungudi saree collection with great quality! What makes the collection truly special is that Jayabharathi ma’am designs and creates the Sungudi dots herself, giving each saree such a personal and authentic touch. I had the chance to meet her once, and I absolutely loved her warmth. There was an instant, genuine connect that made the experience even more special
I ordered a Kalamkari Sungudi saree from Temple of Sungudi and honestly loved it. The fabric quality is really good and the saree looks even better in person. The zari work and finishing are also very nice. Definitely happy with the purchase.
Got a Sungudi saree with zari work from Temple of Sungudi. Loved the colours and the overall look of the saree. It feels very elegant and comfortable to wear. The detailing is beautiful too. Really happy with it!
I own Sungudi sarees from so many different places, but the ones from Temple of sungudi are honestly the best! You can literally feel the love and attention to detail in every single piece from the gorgeous handloom base and the flawless knot work to the perfect amount of starch that gives it that beautiful crispness. I always used to wonder how Jaya's sarees looked so incredibly rich, and then I found out she uses 3g pure zari! It completely makes sense now. You can tell she spends hours obsessing over the perfect color combos and bringing these beauties to life. Getting a Sungudi right is no joke-the fabric, the zari, and the intricate knots all need to be in perfect harmony. Jaya completely nails it. Every single knot feels like it's crafted with pure devotion. Honestly, I'm absolutely obsessed with this little Sungudi heaven. Every time I scroll through the page, I end up dreaming about my next purchase. These aren't just sarees; they are pure heirloom magic!
